The ENDURANCE project is driven by the critical need to fortify Europe’s essential services against potential disruptions, transcending the sole focus on the underlaying critical assets. This EU-funded initiative embarks on a 3-year journey to develop comprehensive methodologies, interoperable technologies, and pragmatic strategies to increase the resilience of Critical Infrastructures.

Led by EVIDEN from Romania, the project was launched on 1st October 2024. The consortium, composed of researchers, critical infrastructure authorities and operators and industry representatives from 7 European countries will convene in Timisoara, Romania, for the kick-off meeting of the project on 15th October 2024.

In today’s ever-evolving landscape of risks, encompassing cyber threats, physical attacks, human errors and natural disasters, the need for a proactive and collaborative pan-European approach to ensuring disruption resilience has never been more urgent.

ENDURANCE aims at helping critical infrastructure actors to fully grasp and harmoniously implement both the CER (Critical Entities Resilience) and the NIS2 (Network and Information Systems) Directive, which provide the regulatory framework for strengthening resilience across sectors.

The project will actively engage a broad range of stakeholders, including Critical Infrastructure authorities, operators, and other key stakeholders alongside innovators, scientists, and consultants working across geographical and sectoral boundaries.

To achieve its objectives, the project will test proposed solutions in a joint, synchronised, and cross-sector/-border manner with the objective to strengthen Europe’s resilience and secure a future where disruptions are met with preparedness, resolve, and unity. The tests will be carried out through a comprehensive piloting programme.

The consortium includes, among other partners, 7 competent authorities and 6 public and private critical infrastructure operators from 6 different sectors (digital, energy, health, public administration, drinking water, wastewater) in 4 EU Member States (Slovenia, Italy, Greece and Romania).

The key activities of ENDURANCE are:

  1. Enhancing strategic cooperation and collaboration among the EU critical infrastructure stakeholders, involving 100+ practitioners.
  2. Developing datasets, registries, methodologies, technologies and services.
  3. Providing harmonised and pragmatic strategy, adopted by 20+ relevant critical infrastructure authorities.

ENDURANCE is set to make a significant contribution to securing a future where disruptions are met with preparedness, resolve, and unity, with a focus on five main objectives: Unity, Preparedness through services, Preparedness through strategy, Resolve through testing, Promotion.

ENDURANCE represents a major step forward in Europe’s resilience-building efforts, ensuring that Critical Infrastructures remain strong and adaptable in the face of emerging threats.
