Can you provide a brief overview of your organisation and its role in the ENDURANCE project?
ELES is the guardian of Slovenia’s electric power transmission system, which is closely connected to the transmission networks of neighbouring countries and integrated into the European energy system. The key activity and mission of ELES Company is the safe and reliable operation of Slovenia’s electric power transmission system, which we provide 24/7 throughout the year.
Our responsibility is that electricity is always at hand, ensuring the consumers can meet their needs and wishes at any time.
In the ENDURANCE project, we will contribute to various Work Packages, and we will be part of the MESO Pilot Study in Slovenia.
How does the ENDURANCE project align with your organisation’s mission and objectives? Why is it significant to your sector, and what impact do you hope it will have?
The mission of ELES is reliable management of the electricity system, through which ELES ensure stable and efficient development of the Company and the transfer to a carbon-free Slovenia and region. The mission defines ELES as the key part of stability, because there is no stable society without the constant availability of electricity. It also allows for the development of the company, mainly in the direction of a carbon-free company, both for energy systems as well as for users.
Given that the ENDURANCE project aims to preserve the essential services that support modern life, which can no longer exist without electrical energy, it is particularly important in the development of innovative technologies and comprehensive methodologies, which will be tested in practical pilot trials and could help to strengthen the processes and services that are important for the supply of electricity to consumers. For ELES and the whole energy sector, the cooperation and coordination inside the sector and cross sectors and regions is important.
What specific contributions is your organisation making to the ENDURANCE project? What are the key outcomes or goals your organisation hopes to achieve through the ENDURANCE projecT?
In the ENDURANCE project, ELES will contribute to various Work Packages and is part of the MESO Pilot Study in Slovenia. This pilot is focused on the interconnected vulnerability of the energy and digital sectors, considering the symbiotic relationship in the context of the digital transformation. ELES will bring to the project its knowledge and expertise in the field of risk management in the energy sector and hopes to gain from methodologies and innovative technologies that will be developed during the project.
Looking ahead, what lasting impact do you hope the ENDURANCE project will have on your organisation, the sector, or the broader community? What are your long-term goals related to the project?
Among others, the use of some project results can improve operational continuity with enhanced preparedness for extreme weather, natural disasters and cross-border disturbances.
Long-term goals of ELES related to the project are to help to improve the technological solutions developed during the project, to the TRL that is useful for companies in energy sector and throughout the different sectors, on the national or European level.
